PromptVault Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 11, 2026
This page describes what PromptVault by PromptSquad ("PromptVault," "we," "us") does and does not do with your information.
The short version: PromptVault stores your prompts locally in your browser. We never receive them, never sell them, never use them to train anything, and never share them. No accounts, no logins, no analytics, no telemetry.
If you only read this far, you have the gist.
What PromptVault is
PromptVault is a Chrome browser extension that helps you save, organize, search, and reuse text prompts intended for use with AI chat tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity). The entire user experience runs inside Chrome on your own device.
What data PromptVault stores
PromptVault writes the following data to chrome.storage.local — Chrome's built-in local storage area, which lives on your device only:
- The text of prompts you save (title, body, tags, use-case notes, folder assignment, favorite flag, usage count, last-used timestamp)
- Folders you create
- Settings (default folder, theme preference, keyboard preferences, banner-dismissal state, Skills Bundle visibility flag, etc.)
- A schema version number used internally to migrate your data across updates
- Your Context Bank — values you've typed into a prompt's
modal that are flagged as reusable context (for example,audience,tone_of_voice,about_me,forbidden_phrases). PromptVault saves them by variable name so it can pre-fill the same field next time. You can view, edit, and delete every saved value from the Context tab in the side panel, or clear them all from Settings → Danger zone → Empty the vault. - Optionally, the URL of a webpage if you used the right-click "Save to PromptVault" flow — this is stored as a one-time draft and cleared as soon as the side panel opens with the captured text.
That's the entire data model. There is no other persistent storage.
What PromptVault does NOT do
- PromptVault does not transmit your prompt data anywhere. It does not have a server. There is no cloud sync, no backup-to-our-servers feature, no telemetry, no error reporting, no analytics.
- PromptVault does not include any third-party SDKs — no Google Analytics, no Segment, no Sentry, no Amplitude, no anything.
- PromptVault does not require an account. There is no login screen.
- PromptVault does not access your AI chat conversations. The content script only inserts text you explicitly chose to insert, into the chat input field, on the active tab. It does not read or transmit anything from those pages.
- PromptVault does not use your data to train AI models. We have no AI models. We do not have your data.
- PromptVault does not sell, share, rent, or otherwise transfer your data to anyone. It cannot — your data never leaves your device.
Permissions, and why each exists
Chrome lists every permission an extension requests. PromptVault uses these:
storage— required to save your prompts, folders, settings, and Context Bank entries tochrome.storage.localon your device.contextMenus— required to show the "Save to PromptVault" entry when you right-click selected text on a webpage.activeTab— required to insert a prompt into the input field of the tab you're currently focused on, when you click "Insert."scripting— required to inject the small content script that handles the insert action on supported AI chat sites.sidePanel— required because the entire PromptVault interface lives in Chrome's native side panel.
PromptVault also lists these specific host permissions, each of which is used only to insert prompts you explicitly chose to insert into that site's chat input box:
https://chat.openai.com/*andhttps://chatgpt.com/*(ChatGPT)https://claude.ai/*(Claude)https://gemini.google.com/*(Gemini)https://www.perplexity.ai/*(Perplexity)
PromptVault does not read or transmit page content from any of these sites.
Imports and exports
PromptVault includes a JSON export feature so you can back up your library. The export downloads a .json file directly to your computer using your browser's built-in download mechanism. The file is not transmitted anywhere — it goes from your browser to your filesystem.
The import feature reads a JSON file you paste in. Imports happen entirely on your device.
Outbound links
The PromptVault Settings panel includes attribution links to promptsquad.ai and a mailto: link to support@promptsquad.ai. Clicking either opens your browser's default handler (a new tab for the website, your mail client for the support address). PromptVault itself does not transmit anything when you click these links; once you arrive on promptsquad.ai, that website's privacy policy applies, not this one.
Children
PromptVault is a productivity tool for general audiences. It does not collect any user data, so it does not collect data from children. We do not specifically market it to anyone under 13.
Changes to this policy
If we add a feature in the future that meaningfully changes how PromptVault handles data — for example, an optional cloud-sync feature with an explicit opt-in — we will update this policy and update the "Last updated" date at the top. Material changes will also be summarized in the extension's release notes.
